Pat Barbarito, co-managing partner of Einhorn Barbarito and co-chair of the firm’s Family/Matrimonial Law practice, was a guest on the “Becoming Your Best Version” podcast. Hosted by Maria Olsen, a lawyer, journalist and author, the podcast “seeks to amplify women’s voices to share their lives, work and life lessons.”
Pat is a sought-after guest as she has been open and honest in discussing how, as a divorce attorney, she thought she knew all about complex relationships until her own marriage of 17 years ended, and her ex-husband died shortly afterwards. To heal herself emotionally, Pat embarked on a journey to get to the heart of love, marriage and human connection, which has given her even greater compassion for anyone going through a divorce. Now, as a prominent divorce lawyer for more than 40 years, she has a unique perspective on love, marriage and divorce.
In her conversation with Maria, Pat, who hosts her own podcast, “Heartbreak & Hope with Pat Barbarito,” also discussed her experience finding love later in life.
“I’ve learned that if you really want to find your person, and you’re healthy, you can.”
But in re-entering the dating pool, Pat said she learned not to overlook potential red flags.
“It’s not about looking for who’s tall or who’s short or who has this job or resources, it’s about looking for core values and quality. It’s not about some magical lightning bolts. Love is complex. So I am on a mission that if people want to find their person you’ve got to let go of what isn’t your person and stop making excuses.”
