Linda Torosian Publishes Cohabitation Agreements Article in New Jersey Family Lawyer

October 8, 2026

Linda Torosian, an associate in the firm’s Family/Matrimonial Practice, has published an article in New Jersey Family Lawyer, Volume 43, entitled “Cohabitation Agreements in Modern Family Law Practice.”

As stated in the article, “Cohabitation agreements occupy an increasingly important position in the New Jersey family law practitioner’s toolkit. As non-marital cohabitation continues to grow, the gap between legal protections available to married couples and those available to cohabiting partners will only widen. A well-drafted cohabitation agreement converts litigation uncertainty into a defined, enforceable framework — and, following the 2010 amendment to N.J.S.A. 25:1-5 and Maeker v. Ross, it is the only reliable vehicle for support rights upon separation. Practitioners who draft these agreements with adequate disclosure, independent counsel, precise provisions, and honest counseling about both their protections and limits, will serve their clients, the courts, and the profession well.”
