Christopher L. Musmanno Obtains $500,000 Settlement for Child Who Sustained Permanent Facial Injuries in Dog Attack

Musmanno, Chair of the Accidents/Personal Injury practice and a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, obtained a $500,000 settlement on behalf of a minor who sustained permanent facial injuries after being bitten by a dog.
According to the claims in the case, the child was at the defendants’ home when their dog bit the child’s face without provocation. The child suffered multiple facial lacerations and experienced extreme pain and shock at the scene.
More than 30 stitches were required to close the wounds to the child’s face. The injuries were described in the claim as permanent.
“There are situations where the injury is worth far in excess of the amount that is collectible from insurance in a case and the responsible party has no substantial assets. This was one of those cases,” said Musmanno. “By utilizing an annuity company, I was able to maximize the amount that the child will actually collect over his lifetime to approximately $900,000. This yielded a better result for the child than simply depositing the money into an interest-bearing account with the surrogate.”
The matter settled for a total of $500,000.
