Carmen Diaz is a Partner in the firm’s Family/Matrimonial Practice. Certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Matrimonial Attorney, and with more than 15 years of experience providing tailored solutions for her family law clients, Carmen has a deep understanding of the challenges of divorce and its unique impact on families.

Carmen is a skilled trial lawyer and negotiator, and supports conflict settlement through Alternative Dispute Resolution, seeking outcomes that meet her clients’ individual objectives. She advocates for clients navigating family law matters including complex divorce litigation, business valuations, prenuptial agreements, child custody, relocation applications, parenting time, psychological parentage, third party custody/visitation, alimony, child support, and domestic violence issues.

As a family law mediator and parent coordinator, Carmen is frequently appointed by the court to serve as a Guardian Ad Litem or law guardian on behalf of minor children. She also represents parents of children with special needs. She is noted for her role as a law guardian in affirming a child’s independent right to counsel in custody proceedings in the 2021 reported decision W.M v. D.G, 467 N.J. Super 216.

Carmen was sworn in as President of the Essex County Bar Association in 2025 and is a frequent author and speaker for the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA). She has served on the executive committee of the NJSBA’s Family Law Section for more than a decade and is an associate editor of the section’s publication, New Jersey Family Lawyer. Carmen is also a trustee of the New Jersey Hispanic Bar Association.

Carmen earned her J.D., cum laude, from Quinnipiac University School of Law and her B.S. from The College of New Jersey. After graduating from law school, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Severiano Lisboa III in the Superior Court of New Jersey.
