Timothy J. Ford Publishes in McKnight’s Senior Living on “Cullen’s Law” and Reporting Requirements for Healthcare Entities and Professionals
February 7, 2023As Partner Tim Ford writes in the current issue of McKnight’s Senior Living, in late 2022, Netflix released two films about Charles Cullen, a nurse who murdered dozens if not hundreds of people while working at New Jersey and Pennsylvania healthcare facilities. Tim explains that the films are a reminder to healthcare entities and professionals about their legal reporting obligations, which arose in response to the Cullen case. The article examines the enactment in New Jersey of the 2005 Health Care Professional Responsibility and Reporting Enhancement Act (HCPRREA), and notes that similar legislation varies by state, requiring senior living entities and professionals to report conduct that could present an imminent danger to patients or the public.
